Why is it?

Why is it that we set ourselves huge tasks for Christmas. All those things you never got around to before somehow end up on the Christmas list. Why is that? Will the world stop turning if they're not done? Will Christmas stop if they're not done? Will any body care ... I mean really care??? My garden has been neglected as I have spent more time on my artwork. Fair enough. But couldn't I just have weeded the garden and given it a make over some other time. No, I seem to leave these jobs for Christmas. Why? Maybe because I know they won't get done at any other time hehehe. To make matters worse I took a spontaneous offer to go away for the weekend. Just like that I dropped everything and went away and now I have to cram, really cram, to make it look like I got everything done for Christmas. I did enjoyed the weekend away. Some much needed me time with some major girls talk was just what was needed. Its nearly 10pm. I spent a 14 hour day gardening and now I still need to put clean linen on the bed before I can fall into a coma. Is the list any shorter yet??? My studio is calling me ...

Can't answer that as my Christmas cleaning and decorating and preparations are not getting done again, but it sure is nice to see extra efforts when they are completed! Who looks for weeds or dust balls at Christmas anyway?

Good for you--taking a spontaneous weekend!! When it's all said and done, Christmas is about friends and family, not about how your house or garden looks. And now that I've said that, I'm off to vacuum the living room cuz I have guests coming this afternoon......lol

You know Uta, I think you have learned how to live. When opportunity or passion calls FOLLOW IT..the weeds, the chores, the whatever will still be there..but they are not what keeps us really going...letting go in the moment...OH you have found the secret....now just finish what you can..like you say..who will really care....No one promised you tomorrow..and you lived today! really lived..no regrets gal...
No matter what.. you will enjoy your family on Christmas..because of love

What a sensible lot of comments! Couldn't agree more, especially as I see how hot it is in Adelaide! Enjoy a wonderful Christmas with friends and family! x

Enjoy the sun, the friends, the family. Gardens grow whether we tend to them or not. But the other, those make the heart flourish. Love to you Uta and have a wonder Christmas.

I stopped the list this year. Except for making sure I did what I wanted for the Grands I only did what I wanted. The change was driven by illness but I think it was a good change. I feel less frazzled this year. I didn't get everything done but I think I'm OK with it. And really "everything" on the list was mostly put there by me anyway. With a few exceptions. Glad you are finding time to do what you love, not what you feel you have to. Life is too short for too many lists. Merry Christmas.

I am a huge "listmaker" and I shortened mine this year too, simply because I knew I wouldn't get to everything. The tree is up, but the tinsel is not on it again. One thing I always want to do because I have my mom's (grandmother's) old tinsel. Real tinsel. It's tangeled in the box, so maybe that will be something to do during the year - untangle it. Also have all my mom's christmas "stuff" that is packed away with mine now, so I am completely confused as to what's where. So, like I said the trees up, my Mom's crocheted stockings are out, along with my new quilted ones, and a couple of other "favorites". That's it and that's as much as I knew I would do. It's okay.
