For the Love of Old Books

New work. Another one completed, yay. As is the norm with my paintings, its larger than life size.
It's on the Shelf
mixed media on canvas
50.8x60.9cm (20"x24")

I just love old books. I like them to be written between 1920 and 1940. I really enjoy the style of writing between these dates. They are simple interesting stories and very descriptive in their narrative. And of course nothing compares to the smell of an old book.

Well I'm off to paint cupcakes now. Cupcakes or muffins, I haven't decided yet. Will just have to wait and see.

Well, we have even more in common, Uta, because I love books, too. Actually I love reading. Old or new. But I, too, like to find old books to paint and draw. I have a few I should pull out to use.
This is a very soothing image, for some reason.I wish I could see it in person.

I'm always awestruck by your use of newsprint imagery, it brings so much depth to the composition and draws my attention right in... the details of the books are marvelous, and the title - I can almost hear someone yelling, 'I told you already. It's on the shelf!!!' Cool title, Uta.

Tatiana,
That's exactly what I was thinking when I came up with the title hehehe

I feel the mustiness of the books. I want to reach in and take one of the shelf. So real!
I zoomed in and saw lettering on the books. Did you hand paint the text? What attention to detail there.

I am a book lover too so this painting particularly appeals to my bookworm side!

Great stuff.

Me too, Uta. Old books have a special place in my heart. Your painting says it all.
